Blue Water Homecare Spreads a Little Joy in the Form of a Pink Flamingo

Our experienced Blue Water Homecare caregivers like to go that extra mile while tending to our clients’ unique needs.

Not too long ago, one of our team members went above and beyond–and then some–when she coordinated a very special visit for one of our clients.

Peggy Garrison was tickled pink this past July when she came face-to-face with a beautiful and majestic flamingo. She had loved the birds all of her life and surrounded herself with their distinctive and whimsical images everywhere in her home.

To brighten Peggy’s days spent at home while she courageously battled pancreatic cancer, our caregiver Sierra contacted the San Antonio Zoo and asked to have a surprise visitor make a very special house call.

The zoo was kind enough to carefully transport the flamingo to Peggy’s house and provide her with this extraordinary opportunity to interact closely with the beloved creature.

Her daughter Amy Doezema and other family members were also on hand to witness this very memorable moment, which was even covered by local media and touched the hearts of viewers throughout Central Texas.

“My mother Peggy had a smile on her face for days, and I am truly grateful for this joy that Blue Water orchestrated for her towards the end of her journey,” recalls Amy.

Peggy has since passed away from pancreatic cancer following her vigilant fight.

We honor Peggy now as November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month. It is estimated that more than 60,000 Americans will have been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2021.

As with all cancers, early detection and swift treatment of this disease is essential for survival.

At Blue Water Homecare, we work with all types of cancer patients, through our at-home care services.

We continually pride ourselves on ensuring that your loved ones’ days are as comfortable, and as memorable, as they can be.

Please contact Blue Water Homecare here for a complimentary consultation and to learn more about how we can help your loved one continue to live safely, and comfortably, at home. And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
